(Also known as Elric Norþman)
The son of a sail-maker, James met Emma Godwif during a collaboration between their two families on the design of ship, The Great Harry, where James' family made the fantastic golden sails requested by King Henry VIII. James and Emma later married in 1550, and jointly took over management of the Elwic family business.
Though a Protestant, during the reign of Queen Mary, James insisted the family observe all Catholic traditions and regulations to protect them all from burning at the stake for martyrdom. Despite their best efforts, they later came under scrutiny for their beliefs during the Marian Persecutions (though they were one of the few who avoided persecution).
In 1558, James began contract negotiations to purchase a Spanish-built ship, which he named La Tintorera (The Shark).

James is a rapier fencer and student to Don Andrew Williams. He is also known to participate in target archery from time to time.
