Coronation
Coronation is a large event held at the end of each reign where the outgoing King and Queen or King and Consort or Queen and Consort step down, and the people who won Crown Tourney are crowned. Coronation is a large event featuring at least two courts, one for for the outgoing and one for the incoming Crown, a Merchant's Row, bardic activities, meetings, martial combat, rapier, cut & thrust combat, archery, and other activities.
In An Tir, reigns are six months long. Our coronation events are July Coronation on the third weekend in July and Twelfth Night on the second or third weekend in January.
July Coronation, similar to Crown Tournament is traditionally an open-air campout event where attendees pitch beautiful tents and pavillions. Some sites may be very rustic open fields where attendees must bring all infrastructure, while some sites may be well-developed, such as scout camps or fairgrounds. Some sites may have cabins to rent for those who are not camping-enabled. Some people not camping-enabled stay in a hotel nearby, or rent a short-term rental accommodation. RV space is allocated for those who camp using an RV.
Twelfth Night Coronation in January is held in a large hotel where the hotel ballroom is set up with a focus on a stage riser where the Royal Thrones and other chairs and furniture are situated. Chairs are ranked in the rest of the ballroom. The focus is on the ceremony of the coronation, although other court ceremony takes place, as well. Twelfth Night also features activities such as the Peer's Auction, a largesse-contributing activity, the Kingdom Bardic Championship to choose the Kingdom Bard who serves for a year, and often a masquerade ball. There is a Merchant's Hall.
Twelfth Night is traditionally the event where people bring and wear their most significant and beautiful medieval garb.
Most attendees stay in hotel rooms at the event hotel, or may choose a different hotel or take a short-term rental nearby, as they choose.
