The Crown Tournament is an event where the main focus is a martial tournament of heavy fighting held to determine the next set of monarchs. In the SCA, monarchs rule a kingdom in the position of King and Queen, or King and Consort, or Queen and Consort. The winner and their consort serve as Heirs until their Coronation takes place. The winner of Crown Tournament is determined by fighting in a double elimination tournament, and the "finals" between the last two contenders might be "best two out of three" or "best three out of five" as decreed by the Crown currently reigning.

In An Tir, there are two Crown Tournaments each year, on the third weekend of May and on Labor Day weekend. Crown Tournament is traditionally an open-air campout event where attendees pitch beautiful tents and pavillions, and Royal Court takes place at least twice. Some sites may be very rustic open fields where attendees must bring all infrastructure, while some sites may be well-developed, such as scout camps or fairgrounds. Some sites may have cabins to rent for those who are not camping-enabled. Some people not camping-enabled stay in a hotel nearby, or rent a short-term rental accommodation. RV space is allocated for those who camp using an RV.
