Agata's History

by Hamelin L'Archier

Agata began her SCA journey in AS 9 (1974) as Genevieve Simone Christianne Buchannon de La Rochelle in Lions Gate. She quickly immersed herself in costume design and fiber arts while also contributing to The Northwind, the baronial newsletter—-a role she continued until the formation of the Shire of Eisenmarche in 1979. During her time in Lions Gate, Agata joined the Lions Gate Minstrels, actively participated as staff for events and feasts, and could often be found in the kitchen. She also served as the Barony’s Minister of Arts and Sciences, taught costuming classes, and earned a Magistrae Ithra in AS XXII (1988).

When Eisenmarche was founded, Agata became the first editor of The Toad, the shire’s newsletter, and remained Chronicler for several years. She also held key leadership positions, including Arts & Sciences Minister, Deputy Seneschal, and later Seneschal.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, still known as Genevieve Buchannon, Agata participated in several Arts & Sciences competitions. She won the Kingdom of the West’s Twelfth Night lace-making contest and placed second in the Kingdom’s costuming competition, earning her a second Jambe de Lion.

In the early 1990s, Agata moved to 100 Mile House, British Columbia, which was then King’s Land in the North. She, with others, were key in establishing the Shire of Coill Mhor in 1997 and was its founding Seneschal. Agata has been a cornerstone of the shire’s community ever since. Over the years, she has held numerous offices, including Seneschal, Deputy Seneschal, Herald, Arts & Sciences Minister, and, since 2009, Web Minister.

Throughout the years, Agata has continued to support the community in whatever ways she can. She continues to assist with events, merchant her beautiful garb and trim, and organize feasts in Coill Mhor. She has contributed largess to the Kingdom and Principality, and shared her knowledge by teaching and mentoring others.
