DONUM CIBI SERVITIA DONUM or “Gift of food, gift of service” - René's Personal Motto
Persona
René was born in Nottingham, England in the Year of our Lord 1341. Her parents, Robert and Anna, were staplers who ran their own small store at the edge of the city.
When René was 15 she was married to Richard Basille, a regular customer of her father's. Soon after their marriage, the people in Nottingham started getting sick and dying. Richard packed his new wife up in their small wagon and headed east ... but not before René's parents succumbed to the disease running rampant through Nottingham.
The newly married couple got as far as Grantham, where they found an inn, in desperate need of care and new ownership. Richard put everything they owned into the business, and they rebuilt it into a thriving roadside inn – The Brewer's Yeast.
In 1357, René gave birth to their first son, Edward.
In 1369, both Richard and Edward were called to war, leaving René home alone to care for the inn and their livestock.
In 1370, she received a letter letting her know that both her husband and son were killed in the war.
Now a widow, she manages the inn on her own, spending most of her time in the kitchens, creating new creations for her clientele.
