Sophia Francesca Bruno resides in the Barony of Blatha an Oir. She loves glass in all its forms, enjoys lamp working glass into beads and teaching her craft to others.
Sophia also has a penchant for event stewarding and helping out at gate. After being Herald Pursuivant and Senechal for the Shire of Druim Doineann for a bit, Sophia stepped back from holding a branch office to concentrate on the Lamp-worker's Guild of An Tir and making lots of largess for our Kingdom. Both Sophia and the Lamp-worker's Guild were honored to be presented with one of the inaugural Bountiful Hands from Their Majesties Thorin Njalsson and Dagmaer in Hvassa.
In the modern world she volunteers at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Wa as a docent as well as working on the hot shop floor, explaining to our live and streaming audiences what the artists are doing. She is also an art educator for the Museum; she goes to different schools and teaches how the science of light and color connect with the art of glass, then takes her classes on a tour based on the curriculum. She was just named Volunteer of the Year all because of a bad case of "helium hand".
~I find that all the research I've done in the SCA on glass has given me such a solid base to work from at the Museum, and working at the Museum has given me new insight to my medieval studies. I've gotten to talk to glass workers from all over the world and even gotten to see a 6th century Czech set up and in use. The artist and I geeked out all day on glass history. I am blessed to have both feet firmly planted in past and future of all things glassy.
