Legion Standard

The standard carried by soldiers of the Legion was a vexillum, a small cloth standard for a detached unit. Seen in the picture below the vexillum had the name and number of the Legion (XXIII, the year AS the group was founded), the nickname FEROX, Latin for "fierce" and a depiction of Cerberus the three-headed hound of Hades which served as a kind of mascot.
