The barony hosts a wide variety of regular functions, ranging from socials to practices to business meetings. The type and details of meetings may vary over time to accommodate the needs and desires of the community; always check the baronial website for the most up-to-date information; this information is usually available on the Calendar page.

Social Meeting

The Social Meetings are an opportunity for members of the community to gather and socialize; there is usually no specific focus or theme, nor is garb required or discouraged. Activities in the past have included:

  • Dance Practice
  • Page School
  • Scroll Painting
  • Business discussion

Business Meeting

The business meetings are gatherings where the community may review past events & activities in the month, present officer reports, and share other business-related information. All members of the community are welcome and encouraged to attend; garb is not required, nor specifically discouraged. If an individual seeks more information, they are encouraged to contact the current Seneschal.

Newcomers Meetings

The Newcomers Meet and Greets are a great way for those new to the SCA or Barony to meet folks, and lean about the possibilities the society offers. However, you don't have to be a newcomer to attend - all are encouraged, and garb is not required.

Please see the Aquaterra Web Site calendar for locations of the Newcomer's Meeting, as it's location moves.

History

"Event at Jess Roe's place summer of '78 was my first "didn't come with relatives" event. It was a equestrian event / principality? event. Became Jess Roe's dogsbody instead of Little bears. As I recall about the dirt and water beginnings ? several discussions about wanting to "crowd fund" $ for a period pavilion and camping display at Bob's (Robert of Waterside) place in Everett, the haunt of geek in costume, we'd been a small group attending mostly Seattle stuff but they were giving us shit about "you have to give us any money you raise and WE get to decide how it's spent- cause you guys aren't a real group". 1979- 1980 Exploration showed we needed 3 adult (16 or older) paid memberships to qualify as a Canton, had to hold 2 public event per year before being upgraded to a Shire. Neither Jenna or I was old enough so we called Bob's daughter (can't remember if it was Amber or Lynnette) Bob said he'd pay her membership cost if she'd let him list her at his address. Bob, Myrnnen, and their daughter first 3 members of the Canton. Had to have been 1980 because by 1981 Jenna or I'd have been old enough to be one of the 3 needed." —Loki Bruen Von Redstone

So, apparently Canton status occurred in 1980.

"I think the first qualified event was Micheal Long and Abdul the Half- Crazed allowed us to Co-host a peasants revel day in a park in Seattle. It wasn't a total disaster but was a learning experience." —Loki Bruen Von Redstone

In answer to a question According to Master Robyrt of Watersyde, "Aquaterra was granted an incipient Shire status in August of 1981. Elevated to Shire at September Crown 1981. This happened so fast because the Kingdom Seneschal was a very good friend of my older Daughter, Lady Amber." The first event held by the shire in the Crier didn't occur until Jan 1983, when they held the fist Ursulmas. The shire was listed as a group in the regional calendar of the Crier #129 (Oct, 1982), and notably was not listed under "groups reported" in Crier #126, July 1982, although they may not have come to the attention of the Crier until publishing their first event.

Aquaterra became a Barony on September 1st, AS XXXI/1996.

In 2023, the Barony of Aquaterra petitioned to "adopt" (annex) the area of the shire of Midhaven. In Febuary of 2024, it was announced that this had been approved, and the zipcodes that formerly made up Midhaven were included into Aquaterra.

A song written for Aquaterra's 20th anniversary.
