An itinerant crumhorn player, Theodulf of Borogrove arrived in the Barony of Madrone in AS VI (1972). He and his lady Anne of Caerdydd served as the ninth Prince and Princess on An Tir and the third Baron and Baroness of Madrone. He is known as the author of dubious autobiographical notes.
Introduction to the Modern Middle Ages
Theodulf and Anne first learned about something called the SCA in the Spring of 1972, began to attend events in the area and raised their daughters in this community.

His persona and name was a whimsical development based on different parts of the activities around him. Theodulf came from Theodulf of Orléans who followed Alcuin (the creator of Carolingian minuscule calligraphy) in Charlemagne's court and his place name was a nod to his Math degree with this reference to the English mathematician who wrote the Jabberwocky.
He worked with the heralds, becoming the First Dexter Gauntlet Pursuivant/Herald responsible for the An Tir Order of Precedence. In the study of heraldic blazons he discovered the amphysian cockatrice (note the tail) and adopted it as his arms.
Other areas he became involved in was setting up the College of Scribes which he ran for several years, and being a founding member of the Madrone Contra Musica.
He worked on the creation of the University of Madrone and its transition to the University of Ithra, and taught classes in calligraphy and arts for several sessions.
He organized the first regularly scheduled fighting practices in the barony.
Coronet of An Tir
Theodulf was victorious at the Coronet Tourney on July 10 AS XI (1976) and he and Anne reined as Prince and Princess from September 11 AS XI (1976} to January 22 AS XI (1977). They worked to expand participation in principality activities and establish customs that were met with the satisfaction of the populace. The Madrone Culinary Guild was formed during their rein and he was an early member.

Barony of Madrone
Upon the retirement of Liam and Deirdre, Theodulf and Anne became the third Baron and Baroness of Madrone from February 12 AS XI (1977) to November 3 AS XIX (1984). Their home The Borogrove became the baronial court for regular meetings and home of the baronial library, as well as frequent meeting location for the Culinary Guild.
Working with his lady, and with the Baron and Baroness of Lions Gate, he created the title of Sergeant and organized the first tournaments to select members of this order.
