The Canton of Nordholt (Linn County, OR) is located in the Principality of the Summits and holds its lands through the Barony of Adiantum.

Long ago, what is now Nordholt had been the site of several branches that had risen and crumbled to dust, leaving its lands an unclaimed patch with no SCA activity of its own. At the time, Adiantum was the northernmost bastion of the Principality of the Summits, and the Shire of Coeur du Val was still part of the then Rivers Region.

In AS XXXI (1996), Grian Ruadh ingen Aed (then known as Grainne Gelleo of Locksley) moved to the Kingdom of An Tir from Atenveldt and settled in these unclaimed lands. There were a few members of the most recently defunct shire still socializing informally, but the nearest actual SCA doings happened only across the river in Coeur du Val. The nearest Baronies were Adiantum to the south and Terra Pomaria to the north. Well, having no official SCA presence there would simply not do, and, with the help of Rhun Rolfson and Qulan (then Manya Ivanova), Grian presented a formal petition to the Barony of Adiantum in late AS XXXI (early 1997) for support of a new canton and offered her service as its founding Seneschal. This petition was accepted by Baroness Marian Staarveld, Baron Ambrose Mavrorothakis and Seneschal Isobel of Clan McKenzie, and Nordholt became an incipient branch with the registration of its name and branch device.

So, at Summits Spring Coronet in AS XXXII (1998), King Brendan Shimmeringstar was beseeched and the Canton of Nordholt came officially into existance.
