The Scroll of Honor was created to commemorate the passing of Evan Graham of Montrose. It originated in the virtual tavern called the "Prancing Yak" which exists only on the 'Steps of the Cathedral' one of the An Tir e-mail lists. It grew as name after name of An Tirian folk who had passed on were proposed for addition to the scroll. Originated by Aaron of the Black Mountains, he became, by default, the un-official obituary clerk for An Tir. The basic rules governing additions to the Scroll were codified by consensus of the members of the e-mail list. The rules were only three in number;

Only An Tir folk are listed on the Scroll (This includes any who considered themselves An Tirian)
No titles are listed on the Scroll. (Except for Her Serene Highness, Janeltis Karaine, Starfollower)
The names are entered alphabetically as death is the great equalizer. (So all listed are equally honored.)

For several years the Scroll of Honor hung on the wall of this virtual tavern and it became custom for Aaron to write a short story wherein a 'toast' was offered for the memory of the departed.

These tavern toasts finally resulted in the creation of a physical, paper scroll that could be held and read. Dame Tamlyn of Wyntersea (OL) lead a group of scribes who caligraphed the paper Scroll. This caligraphed scroll is updated with the names of additional losses in our Kingdom.

This is the online version.

It became the wish of the Crowns of An Tir that this duty be given to the Ladies of the Rose and Valorous Estate. So now, once a year, the Ladies of the Rose and Valorous Estate present the Riderless Horse Ceremony to announce additions to the scroll. Additions for the Scroll of Honor can also be sent to riderlesshorse(at)hotmail(dot)com.
