Maurus Ioinur has been a part of the SCA since 2019, and resides in the Shire of Hartwood in An Tir. Maurus can be found in the greenwood as he is a Forester, participating in Archery and Cut & Thrust sword fighting.
Persona
Armiger Maurus Ioinur was born on the fifth of June, 1137 during a solar eclipse ("Maurus" means "dark skinned"). Born in Radcot, Oxfordshire, during the Anarchy, he grew up in the shadow of a castle on the Thames fortified by the Empress Matilda when he was five years old.
Maurus was apprenticed to his father, John the Joiner, at age 13. During his travels as a journeyman, he first visited Shrewsbury Abbey and a kind Welsh monk convinced him to learn his letters and sums in addition to his woodworking skills. His journey took him from Churches to Monasteries to many Great Halls the length of England perfecting his trade until he completed his masterwork building Clitheroe Castle in Lancashire for Robert de Lacy, Baron of Pontrefact and Lord of Bowland.
After completion of the Castle, and taking many apprentices, eventually Maurus was made a Royal Forester and Woodward, administering the Forests of Bowland.
Maurus has a wife named Elizabeth and three sons: Hubert (Hugh), a Bowyer; Eustace, a Fletcher; and John, the youngest, is a novice monk.
