Memory of Ronald of Hawkwood (passed away August 16, 1999):

Ron is the reason I'm in the SCA. I met him in the grocery store in what was then the shire of Caverns Gate, in the Summits, when I was new in town. He said, "Come on over to the house! My wife and I can teach you to sew and make armor and do a coat of arms...you'll love it!" It was a very small town and I had nothing to do, so I went over. And I *did* learn to make armor, and to sew, and create my own arms. And I learned to volunteer, and to welcome people, and to share the joy.

Ron, along with Lawrence of the Marsh, got me into my first kit of armor. He helped me make a shield out of a retired roadsign ("High Water" I think), and teach me how to block and what a pell was. He was my first teacher and my SCA brother. Miss you, Ron. You left too soon. --Vesta 09:19, 9 Jul 2010 (PDT)
