Heralds provide a number of functions in the SCA.

  • Armory: Design and registration of heraldry (arms, badges)
  • Names: Registration of appropriately medieval names.
  • Court Herald: Being the Voice of the Throne (or other noble) during their Court; making announcements, reading award scrolls aloud, calling members of the populace forward to be recognized.
  • Field Herald: Announcing the fighter pairings and performing the pre-fight ceremony.
  • Town Cry: Distributing information vocally on a circuit during camping events.
