About:
Edmund Courtecuisse is a textile nerd and novice herald in the Barony of Three Mountains. He can be found on social media at @shorted_sewing , and puts up a few Royal Round scores with his longbow.
He is serving the Barony as their Herald and Arts & Sciences Champion in AS 59.
He hails from the disputed lands near Calais, in the Edwardian period of the Hundred Years War (1337-1360).
Persona:
Edmund’s exact age is unknown, but he was a young man just reaching his majority when the Black Death entered northern France in the spring of 1348. A few years on, in 2025 or an allegorical 1352, Edmund is an independent working professional, a journeyman in his craft.
While the extent of his travels is not fully known, he lived and worked among the fashion and thought of the Low Countries, heavily influenced by English and French urban opinion. Depending on how Edmund is serving his Barony, he could be considered a merchant of modest means, or a liveried servant in a large house, and subject to the appropriate sumtuary laws of either group. Growing up near the Low Countries, he may have spoken a dialect of French called Picard as his first language, then added English as a second language. He was not likely to have been fully literate, but may have known enough of his letters to affirm a contract and write his name. It is likely he had a firmer grasp of math as a tradesman, and would have been proficient in counting ells of fabric and tallying profits and expenses. He is presumed to have been Catholic, as in 1299 the Jews of France were expelled by Philip IV. They were again exiled in 1306, which would have again displaced a Jewish Edmund.
