An Amusing Story about the Riderless Horse Ceremony Wiki Page
September Crown A.S. XLIII/2008 - Madrone (North Bend WA)
Preamble: Among the event and merchant handbills posted in the porta-privvies at September Crown this year there was an interesting addition. Some brilliant person took the time to print and post articles extracted from Wikipedia and from the An Tir Culture Wiki ("Because History is Fun"). With all due apologies to event autocrats and merchants, it was much more interesting to read about the Battle of Hastings or the introduction of fighting to Lions Gate than it was to read copy for an event I probably wouldn't be attending or a merchant I'd already visited.
This is the story as it was told to me: In the early afternoon, the Heralds were informed that the Riderless Horse Ceremony would be a part of court that day. Although they are generally extremely well-prepared, the Heralds were alarmed to discover that a copy of the Riderless Horse Ceremony was not present in their files. What to do, what to do? In the ensuing low-panic discussion, one Herald raised his/her hand and said "I believe I saw a copy of the Riderless Horse page from the An Tir Wiki in one of the Biffies. Can we use that?" We could indeed!
The ceremony was retrieved from the porta-privvy, adjustments made, and the ceremony went off without a hitch.
Huzzah to the people who created and maintain this page! Your efforts saved the Crown and the Heralds of An Tir from embarrassment and stress.
