Event Announcement

CORONET TOURNEY, MAY 17-18, A.S. XV, SNOQUALMIE RIVER CAMPGROUNDS, MADRONE

SPRING CORONET will be held May 17-18 at the Sno­qualmie River Campgrounds (formerly a public park, now reserved for group camping only). The site is reserved for the SCA for the weekend. Friday night camping is available, but a separate $1 fee per camper will be required. The gate will be closed at 10 pm. A fee of $2/adults and $1/children under 12 will be assessed as people arrive. This charge is to both overnight and day users to defray the cost of the site. Secure parking is available; it will be restricted to an unobtrusive area. The schedule is as follows:

The autocrats are requesting those with authentic pavilions to set up near the field. Constables will be on hand to help campers locate ap­propriate spaces for their pavilions.

The Madrone Culinary Guild will provide a nourishing breakfast on Sunday for 50 cents. Bring a bowl, spoon and cup.

The Lists will be double-elimination with any approved weapons. There will be a weapons qualification and a style qualification. Fighters must be qualified with the weapon and style with which they intend to fight. FIGHTERS TAKE HEED! Kingdom law requires every con­testant in a Coronet or Crown list to be a paid subscriber to the Page. This is considered a condition of qualification and will be strictly enforced. As proof of your subscription, it is suggested you produce a) a cancelled check from The Page; b) your copy of The Page with its mailing label intact; or c) a Xerox of your subscription blank.

CONTESTS: The Mistress of Arts for the Principality announces two contests to be judged at Spring Coronet: First, a Bragging Contest, to be judged on its cleverness and consistencey. Entrants must provide a letter of introduction for their personas to the judges. (Wit is considered a plus.) The judges will decide the winner based on the creativity of the bragadoccio and its degree of being "In Character" with the persona of the Entrant. Second, a Stationery Design contest for the Arts office. The winning entry will be reproduced as the official let­terhead for the Arts office. A runner-up will also be chosen. Entries must be 8½ by 11", with no less than ½" clear left margin. The device of the Arts office is an Irish harp, and it is suggested that it be included in the design.

Morimoto Koryu is sponsoring a Sumo and a Geisha­-Sumo contest. He hopes to encouraqe this variety of wrestling in An Tir and is looking forward to sponsoring a Grand Championship match at September Coronet. He will supply a handout covering the finer points of Sumo and some suggestions for appropriate costume to those who contact him. % Tony Ferrucci.

The Fellowship of the Keepers of Wisdom is sponsoring a contest for the Best Healing Balm (Internal or External). The Prize will be a mortar and pestle. Points will be given for the most effective potion as demonstrated by the [victim] patient.

Alan of Draccocrag and Gweniveave of the Dragon's Lair are sponsoring a Peasant Weapons contest. How would you arm your peasants in time of need? Prize to be a cut gem stone.

An archery competition is being sponsored by Reynaud of Burgundy and Don Bettger. Included are timed shooting, 20-40-60 yard shoots, and a Royal Round.

Three ladies of noted culinary skill are judging a contest on the theme “A Dish to Bring out the Beast in Your Fighter (or Lord)." What foods did medieval folk believe would make a man more ferocious, virile or stronger? Entries will be judged on originality, appe arance and taste (also effect--especially if the taster wins the Mucking Tall Maul). Please submit a recipe and an explanation of the dishes' merits with the entry. Sponsors (and judges) are Anne of Caerdydd, Arias and Rowenna de Manning.

Those interested in sponsoring contests, or offering aid and comfort, may contact the harried autocrats, Edward the Stuffy and Rowenna de Manning. The autocrats ernestly invite the populace to propitiate any efficacious deities in efforts to insure desirable meteorological conditions... to wit: Pray for sunshine!
