EVENT COPY

On the cold steppes of Artemisia, a new King rises and proclaims His Queen. Gleefully Gwenevere turns Her eyes westward to Her homeland of Lyonsmarche. Dearly does She remember the lentils and garbanzos of home and whispers words of encouragement. Through the winter He has gathered His forces and prepared them for the long march homeward. Soon the frozen hand of winter will lift and the passes will open; Dread Floki comes.

Yet all is not lost, for the inhabitants of Lyonsmarche, long used to the plundering of neighbors close and far, have sent scouts far afield to look for unwelcome guests. Camps were noted, fires counted, and communiques intercepted. Swift dispatches to An Tirian cousins have been sent, ties of old renewed, and war banners unfurled!

Will the Isle of Silcott fall to the ravening hordes of Artemisia, or will the Council of the Inlands once again keep Lyonsmarche safe for trade and livestock? And who will YOU fight for? Be you fighter (heavy and rapier), archer, brewer, or craftsman, all will contribute to their cause!

Event Steward: Phelan Tolusmidr (Bill Lillibridge). 1513 Airway Avenue, Lewiston, ID 83501; Phone 208-791-5039

Battle of Five will be hosted by The Brotherhood of the Black Unicorn after the heavy war. A YAC tournament/practice will be held concurrently.

Iron Needle

The rules are simple; you will be given a square of linen and will have until 3 pm on Saturday to create something amazing from it. You may use any other material and any tools you wish so long as you finished product is primarily constructed from the provided linen. Bonus points in judging for use of period tools and materials or documentation and for creating sometime suitable (and intended as) largess. Limited sewing supplies (needles, thread, and scissors) will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis. As a twist there will also be a large basket of available scrap fabric and trim for free use. The winner will receive war points for their side!

Iron Scribe

Scribes and Heralds! This is your chance to earn war points!

Entrants will be provided with a blank piece of “parchment” paper and a table will be available with a light box, paints, brushes, rulers, square, towels, and cups for water as well as a small selection of dip-pens and ink

You will be asked to create an illuminated scroll using a provided text, however you interpret it. You may feverishly work the whole time, or come and go as you please, but when the clock strikes 3pm on Saturday all brushes will be put away and the judges will then pick who will earn the title of Iron Scribe! Feel free to bring books, light boxes, paints, pens, brushes, and vellum, whatever you think you may need to complete a scroll.

This can be a team project; up to two scribes/heralds may work on a single scroll!

An army marches on its stomach, or so the saying goes, and the cook reigns supreme when the feast table is laid.

Our great College has been besieged, though by brigands or defenders it is yet hard to say, and supplies are running low. But with the mighty king and gracious queen in attendance a feast must be laid! Who will answer the call to craft a delectable offering of savory and sweet treats from the scraps that are available? Who will see their side aided in victory through their craft?

A table will be laid with all the available supplies and the contestants will be allowed to choose their “team” of supplies. Some of the things that may be available include: Rolled Oats, Honey, Lard, Meat (types and amounts to be determined), Onions, Apple cider vinegar, Appropriate Vegetables, Various Fruit, Stale Bread, Wheat Flour, Butter, Hulled Barley, Sugar, Rye Flour, Almond Milk, Eggs, Cream, Oil, Almonds, Cheese, Salt, Wine

Additionally each contestant will be given a cup of dry lentils. which must feature prominently in at least one dish.
