I, Ian Jameson, write these words.

Astride steeds of iron and chain

Elisabeth Piper and Elaine d'Hibou rode forth

Travelling the streets of Adiantum.

Aspied they a youth standing afront his dwelling

Firm his stance.

Boldly striking a pell.

Eyes turn toward each other, unspoken question

"Knowest thou him?"

"Nope."

"Excuse us, but have you heard of the Society for Creative Anachronism?"

"I have, but seek though I might, I find it not."

"Seek no longer, for we have found you."

In less silly retelling, my sister and her housemate were riding their bicycles one day and came across an unknown youth striking a pell in his front yard, and felt compelled to check and see if he knew of us.

And that is how Rapheal the Rogue was introduced to the SCA.

This was around 1980 in Adiantum.
