Event Highlights

We had a wonderful weekend at Aquaterra Champion's / St. Ursul's Collegium / Sable Rose event. The event stewards HL Ljufvina, HL Domenico and Lady Heilve did an amazing job organizing and running the event!

On Saturday, the outgoing Champions devised challenges that were well suited to thoroughly test the competitors abilities. We were amazed that we had so many entrants and their inspirations join us on the stage that it seemed to outnumber the audience! At the day's end we had a new slate of Champions for the coming year.

Behold the listing of the new Champions of the Barony of Aquaterra

  • Heavy Champion - Lord Haldor Jolgeirsson
  • Rapier Champion - Don Conal MacLaren
  • Equestrian Champion - HL Domenico Taddio
  • Arts & Sciences Champion - HL Volund Ingennam,
  • Archery Champion - HL Rodri Glynglas
  • Thrown Weapons Champion - Donnel Davinson
  • Games Champion - HL Michelino di Gino Martini
  • Bardic Champion - HL Roger Gridley
  • Youth Armored Combat Champion - to be held at Banner War

As the Championships were being held, there were numerous classes for those not competing to partake in. We thank the teachers who generously offered their skills to teach others. We also had a nice group of merchants for those who wanted to spend their coins.

The evening ended with a lovely feast and the performances by the Bardic entrants. We had so much talent to entertain us that it was difficult to limit our selection to one Champion!

On Sunday (today), classes continued and the ranges were open for those who were interested in spending some time there.

The Company of the Sable Rose, Argent hosted it's yearly Emprise. There was a course of challenges set-up for participants to ride for the glory of their inspirations and the entertainment of the ladies (and lords) in the berfrois. The winner this year was Duchess Angharad. Special thanks to Sir Thorkel and Baroness Taradan for organizing the challenges both days. Many thanks also to HL Francesca, HL Domenico for bringing their horses to the event and for being so generous in offering them to riders without their own mounts.

The final event of the day was the Sable Rose 'Romancing the Rose' Rapier Tournament. This tournament, like the Emprise, is set-up for the combatants to bring glory to their inspirations and for the enjoyment of the ladies (and lords) in the berfrois. The winner of each fight instructed their opponent to deliver a rose to the person of the choosing in the audience. In the end, Don Conal was the victor. HL Mughain and HL Halawa were each recognized with the Chivalry prize and HL Gideon was recognized for a very entertaining Best Death.

It was a well run, enjoyable, inspirational event and we want to thank all of the people who worked so hard to make it possible. We know that many hands helped make this event such a success and we are very pleased that so many people in the Barony and friends helped pitch in to make it all possible. We are very proud of our Barony!

Personal Memories

Excellent time, even for a daytrip only. Arrived early, helped set up A&S, did a little fetch and carry, and played a few games of Kubb. Had fun playing games all afternoon with two lovely ladies - lucked into winning the championship. Boccie was especially fun, I really do have to pick up a set. We managed to play through all over the site. There looked to be a lot of interesting classes, only sorry I didn't have the time to get to any.
