Personal Memories

I have three very clear "snapshot" memories from the Investiture Ceremony:

  1. The Prince's guard are (almost?) all women. As they processed in, they thumped their spears on the floor. (I remember thinking to myself "Please don't dent the floor, we want to use this hall again. Please don't dent the floor...")
  2. The resounding cheering when Ulf announced Princess Amanda to the populace. The rafters rocked.
  3. The size of Amanda's retinue: It's very big and she has included folks from all over the principality. (Smart lady -- no matter where she goes in the Principality, she'll have local folks as retinue.) Her Highness has Heavy Guard, a Rapier Guard, an Archery Guard and an Arts and Sciences Guard (who no doubt will throw themselves between Their Highnesses and any occurrences of polyester+). I have no doubt that the 'royal education' of a future prince or princess of Tir Righ was begun by becoming one of Her Highness's attendants.

Oh my goodness, the banquet food was TERRIFIC. The candied mint leaves and rose petals were divine.

We made just a touch over $500 on the dessert auction for the Principality.

+ "...occurrences of polyester" Sunjan is on the A&S Guard, it's her line. I stole it.

Yes, the Prince's Guards that processed in were/are all female.

I remember the dancing that followed dinner, both having the opportunity to dance (with new people, too!), and learning new dances. My thanks for those opportunities!

A resounding "Huzzah!" to the organizers and all their staff for an event well-done!

I have two huge memories from this event.

First, as the room was shaking with the thunderous ovation for Amanda, it finally dawned on me that somehow, someway, I drew perhaps the luckiest straw for any herald in An Tir: I was the herald who was doing the ceremony to elevated Amanda Kendal of Westmoreland to Royalty. Wow.

Second, I also got to be the one to herald the County scroll of my lady, Jacyntha Elizabeth Argentarius. A great weekend!

As part of the Autocrat's Team, I was pleased to see our guests enjoying themselves throughout the weekend. Highlights; the quality of garb; the many people who played the period games we provided; the many people who pitched in to help; Duncan Darroch's awe inspiring effort as Dessert Auctioneer; Domina Julilla Sempronia's always excellent performance of Virgil's Copa; the victory of my friend Enoch Jacobsz van Zuidenland to become our Principality's Rapier Champion and ... most importantly on a personal note; the appreciation expressed by our guests for the amazing feast created by my Lady wife Keinna de Savage and delivered by her team. It was heartening to see the good gentles of our Principality express what I have known for years; Keinna Lady de Savage is an artist in the kitchen.

As an aside; What many do not know is that Keinna plants and tends our vegetable and herb gardens specifically for her upcoming feasts so the ingredients are natural and pesticide free.
