*The Betting Man's Guide  costs $2 and is  a fundraiser for Earnrokke. This is a list of the Mounted Hunters that will be used to help folks when they are bidding on their Hunter/horse combination during the Rider Auction.  Each Hunter has a commentary that tells something about him/her and their horse.  This helps the folks "know" the horses and riders, so they can bid on a 'ride to buy' (ie, riding the Hunt Course). If their Rider wins, then both 'owner of the winning ride' and the  Rider will get a Prize. Anyone over 18 can bid and people can pool their money to raise more funds in order to place the highest bid.

4] HL Macha the Determined (Macha ban Kennard)
4] HL Macha the Determined (Macha ban Kennard) is early Celtic, from a trading clan but now retired with her Lord Kennard to manage the family manor in the Scottish hills. Her name, however, is the Irish form of the horse goddess, gained because she was born in Ireland on her family’s trading travels, and – even as an infant – she showed an affinity for horses and a great deal of persistence in pursing her goals. She has many artifacts from her and her clan’s travels, and delights learning from others about their customs, culture, artisan skills, and scientific knowledge. She has gained a reputation as a fine care giver for equines, especially for keeping them sound and happy into advanced old age. Macha is unlikely to be the Hunt champion – but just to be able to participate is a joy to share thrill of the hunt with human and equine friends, and of course to join the feasting after a successful hunt!

She is riding  Ace (registered as Kings Royal Mist). This is Ace’s third year participating in SCA equestrian, after a career being the heading horse for a roping team, something not recommended for longevity of a horse’s hocks (!). He came to Macha at 16 – she is only his second owner, which tells you a lot about him as a valued equine partner. Ace loves SCA – Macha became certain of this when last year, his second competition year, he would drag her to the horse trailer when he saw its horse door was open. Ace also loves to serve and is happy to help others have fun at SCA equestrian events, either by helping them compete or by adding to the pageantry in processionals, progresses, and mounted town cries. With a less decrepit rider, he just could be the Hunt champion – but above all he too is full of joy to be part of the Hunt!!

11) Lady Francesca da Monte is an Italian country girl, born in the hills of Tuscany in the early 1300’s. She grew up along with my brothers ,learning to ride and to shoot from her father . She was in the top ten riders of IKEQC for AS 40. She is riding  Lakota or Josephine. Lakota is speed and courage personified, a red rocket. Josephine is nimble and swift, but still very much an Appaloosa mare (that means she’s persnickety and unpredictable at times).

13] Lady Ersebet Janos descends from a long line of superior archers. She is Arcuarius to HL Robert of Wolfork, OGGS, who was once Arcuarius to Master Julian Farnsworth, OGGS. In her home barony, Three Mountains, there has never been any doubt of her serious skill with the bow. She studied it thoroughly under the guidance of her husband, HL Duncan McKai, OGGS, leading to three archery championships in the Shire of Dragon’s Mist, the Barony of Three Mountains, and the Shire of Mountain Edge. After watching a renowned horse warrior perform his horseback archery magic, she decided to put the horse in horse bow. She continues study of the bow with HL Robert of Wolfork, OGGS, and practices riding three times a week on her borrowed potential war mare, India Goldemayne.

Ersebet has also been careful to learn the more gentle womanly arts of cooking and sewing. She learned that the way through a man’s heart is his stomach and Men Love Meat! It was only natural that her bow would not only kill (many) men but help feed them as well! (Fortunately, her beloved husband was fed—not killed!).

Mounted Hunter Auction

The Betting Man's Guide

Please bid on who you think will be the winning rider/horse combination for the mounted hunter ride! This is Earnrokke's primary fundraiser and the person who 'owns' the winning ride will receive the grand prize! The winning rider will be designated as the Champion mounted hunter and get to carry the Earnrokke hunting horn. So place your bids now. All funds must be payable by cash or check to the Baroness Anastasia, Hunt Lyst Mistress immediately following the Auction.

  • The Betting Man's Guide costs $2 and is a fundraiser for Earnrokke.

THE MOUNTED HUNTERS

1] THL Thorkel Haraldsson His Lordship was the first Equestrian Champion of Earnrokke! He won the first Summer Hunt 2 years ago. Thorkel is a Norman. The Normans love their horses and hunt as well as fight from horseback. I will hunt and strive to impress the one who inspires me. The most fair is the fiery red-head, Taradan, who was born to horseback as the Mongols, with fearless determination and a continual pursuit of oneness with her horse. Remember the Celts don’t hunt only deer. I am a Norman put your money on me, you can trust me as the Kings law. Although the spear is more noble than the heathen’s bow I will use it as the course demands and put the infidel in its place. A second horn for my ladies honor will please me most of all.

7] THL Kolfinna Hestrasdottir is the daughter of a Norse farmer and his Irish freedwoman wife. It was her responsibility to tend and care for the farm’s stock when her father was on another one of his “business” trips. She took exception to her fathers horses, which were from inherited stock going back several generations in her family. These horses are noted for their fearlessness and intelligence. Her horse is named Skyggnir, because he loves to go fast! Skyggnir is a fiery mount that is ready to join in the fray at a seconds notice. He’s fearless in the heat of battle, and agile of foot, yet is always ready to impress the ladies with his fancy moves. I BOUGHT THIS RIDE FOR $__________

I BOUGHT THIS RIDE FOR $__________

She is riding Ace, who is the sturdy war horse of Macha the Determined and he counts Ersebet among his many best friends. Not riding him is punishable by his teeth holding Ersebet’s coat collar until a satisfactory explanation is given. The definition of “satisfactory” varies by time of day, whether food was consumed, and whether turnout occurred yet. I BOUGHT THIS RIDE FOR $__________
