Lord James of Northkeep was an "oldtimer" many of us remember. He ran "Hippogryph Armory" and was a bladesmith and trader. He taught me how to shape and temper a blade. (I did not have the patience to forge one, alas.)
He never registered armory, but used a bat-winged oval piece of antique jewelry and the hippogryph as "his sign", so alas, no coat of arms to display here. Someplace I still have one of his old business cards with a nicely drawn hippogryph, and I may scan that in when I find it, for old time's sake.
In the early days of Dragon's Mist and Three Mountains James' booth was always a place newcomers could gather. His home was open to many as well. He seemed to know "everyone", and introduced me to many of the SCA folk who became my friends.
We miss ye, Jim.
