'Orrible 'Arold, the 'Erald of 'Artwood is, predictably, a resident of the shire of Hartwood. He's also known as Pappagunda.

Persona

Harold is an anglo saxon circa 1066, because this is the only historical date he can remember.

Interests

Harold's first event was Insula Magna's Newcomer's, held in July of 2013. When asked what she wanted for her birthday, Cunegonda of Hartwood asked for her parents to come to the event; they decided that the people they met there were terrific, and stayed.

Long before even joining the SCA, Harold hosted archery on his property. Despite seeing roughly three targets for every one down the end of the range, he continues to be reasonably successful; he won Daffodil's prize tourney in 2016, and his status as Master Bowmen contributed to Their Majesties Christian Bane and Hélène d'Anjou's decision to enter him into the Order of the Grey Gooseshaft November of 2018.

Upon gaining his AoA in 2014 Herald became interested in Heraldry. When the shire office had been vacant for some time, the rest of council voluntold him that he would be taking it on; they couldn't resist the alliterative charm of Harold being the Herald of Hartwood. His interest lies primarily in device design, and within a few months of taking on the office Hartwood had a number of devices in the approval process equal to approved devices previously.

In 2016 Hartwood held an event called College of War. At that event Phydeaux Weir came up to teach thrown weapons marshalling. This became a big part of Harold's focus afterwards; he became the first Hartwood thrown weapons officer (Chief Chucker), worked hard to become a Senior marshal, and heavily promoted the sport. A year later, in July 2017, Their Highnesses Einar Guntharson || and Tangwystl verch Glyn entered him into the Order of the Hafoc in recognition of his efforts. In 2019, he became the Principality Thrown Weapons Marshal, and advocated for a Principality Thrown Weapons Champion. At February Investiture, 2020, it was announced that the Championship would be established at June Coronet. His efforts in the area of thrown weapons also contributed to his induction into the OGGS.

Companions

Harold is married to Marguerite Dubois. His daughter is Cunegonda van den Bossche, which is where 'Pappagunda' is derived from.

Awards

Visit the Order of Precidence to see Harold's awards.

Infamy

Around the campfire, Harold of Hartwood can easily be pursuaded to tell the tale of Brumbies of Lochac. He has excellent suggestions regarding the versatility of a stick. And he has excellent stories of his youth (though not technically SCA, every adult will be enthralled by them), providing far too many ideas for our youngsters to get into trouble with!
