Jamie of the Oakenshield: First Knight of the Society for Creative Anachronism who lived in what would become An Tir. (Not sure if he was from what would become An Tir or if he was transplanted after he was Knighted)

Jamie was living in the East Bay area when he was knighted and I can't find any evidence that he lived up here prior to that. I do know I never saw him at any event in what would become An Tir. It's like he just dropped off the map.

Sir Jerald of Galloway

Because of this, Sir Jamie became the answer to a lot of odd OP trivia questions: First award in the An Tir OP, first Knight and Peer in the OP, first person to receive exactly one award, one award and that award is a peerage, one of the few knights elevated in that ceremony on January 2, AS II to never win Crown, and I'm sure a few more that I haven't thought of.

Now if I just had the answer to the big question: What happened to him?

HL Quentin Martel

When last heard from he lived in the Portland area. Syr Garin, Duke Torgul and I had a visit with him at a Kriegstreiber Multiweapons tourney circa AS 22

I spoke with HL Peter Blackbeard, who sees Jamie, and yes, he's still living in Portland. (August, 2007)

Jamie founded House Oakenshield in Three Mountains, date uncertain. However, Jarl Ulfred remembers a revel around 1977, celebrating an alliance between House Eikenskjoldi and House Oakenshield, so it was well established by then. Some members/friends that Ulfred recalls include Jamie, Valkyrie, Steingrim, Peter Blackbeard, Michael the Ogre, Audun the Red and Gwendolyn beg MacDuff.

Jamie taught computer classes (and possibly math) at Portland Community College at least through the mid-1980s.

He liked to tell stories to the younger folks of the giants that walked the earth in the early days of the Society, such as Edwin Bersark, Fulk de Wyvern, Richard the Short (Richard of Mont Royal). He was also fond of saying "Never let the truth stand in the way of a good story..."

Baroness Elfreda

jaimie of the Oakenshield was in on party from the start. was the 7th Knight of the SCA. I started in 69 ,meet him in 71 . he will be missed by many.he was of the bright ones who help us become what we are.

This gentleman's name has been added to the Scroll of Honor. He passed June of 2008.
