I imagine not a lot of people here would remember Icarus (Dan). He was a tall, lanky fellow with long, red hair, who played on the fringes of 3m until he commited suicide in 91 or thereabouts. He is probably best remembered in the SCA for creating beautiful black roses out of scrap metal.

In 88' I was staying in an apartment with Dan's best freind Dale, and Dan hung out with us a lot. We traded songs and stories, and he taught me how to make vampire fangs, which is how I would pay my way through college afterwards. He was an artist of some ability, but talked like a farmer. In fact he was one of the most humble and earthy people I've ever met.

But the thing that alway s stuck out was his loneliness. He wanted nothing more out of life than the feeling you get when your arm falls asleep because the woman you love is using it for a pillow. So a couple years later, when a beatiful woman saw past his shyness and lack of polish, he fell head over heels for her. And when she left him a year later, he decided his journey was over.

Farewell Dan. You had a kind heart. May the next life treat you better than this one did.
