Memoria:

Greetings to those gathered here in the fair lands of Summits:

Today I bring you sad news.

Tuesday morning, Sister Madelyn de Worden, MKA Madelyn Aaland suffered a massive heart attack while visiting her dear friend Baranne. Quick action on Baranne's part got Madelyn to the Roseburg hospital, where they determined Madelyn was in grave condition, and then transferred her to Sacred Heart here in Eugene. The attack Madelyn suffered caused a tear in her heart--Surgery was performed, but it was determined that her heart was too extensively damaged for her to recover any quality of life. Her children, Jon and Alyssa, made the decision to not artifically extend her life, and asked for her to be released from all the machinery and drugs.

At 4 am, Madelyn, with both her children present, peacefully and painlessly passed from this world. Her pain has ended.

Sad greetings from Dame Arwen Lioncourt,

I know there aren't many folk on this list who played in Summits BEFORE she was Summits, but for those of you who attended A/W War or Egil's in the early-mid 90s, you'll know Madelyn.....

Madelyn passed away last week. She was like a mother to me during those years when I was in Summits. She was a mother to all of us. The night that we made our petition to become a Crown Principality, I stepped down as Regional Chirurgeon and she stepped up. She didn't want the job, which tells you she was wise.....

She was always calm in the face of pressure, and had an great gift of caring for drunk people at Egil's without judging them. That doesn't mean they got away from the Point without a few choice words regarding their stupidity, she just delivered them with such love and care that they didn't notice they were being chastised.

There were many a night shift that I worked in those days when she would come by with coffee for me. She would wake up in the middle of the night and check on me. She was always there, yet she never wanted any formal awards. I feel awful that she never received a Pelican, an accolade for which she was worthy. She will forever be a peer of the realm in my eyes.

I miss her even though I have not seen her in years. I am only now beginning to feel the impact she had on the person I am today.

Madelyn was a member of the Barony of Adiantum. She loved anything to do with fibers, and was a Chirurgeon for many years. She was a wise and caring woman with an enormous library and a heart to match.

Madelyn's name has been added to Scroll of Honor - An Tir Remembers
