SCA History

Sir Ieuan Gower at September Crown 2007

Ieuan found the SCA in 2000 and helped to begin a small household in Avacal. The Wolfpack has since evolved and grown to become a large and well respected War Household in An Tir. After moving from Cold Keep to Lions Gate he became an apprentice to Sir Geoffrey de Rennes (2001) and then later squire to Thegn Ulf Bloodfoot Fallgrson (2003). Ieuan became the fifth Prince of Tir Righ (2005), and was Knighted by HRM Uther at 12th Night of the next year (2006). During the first reign of Tiernan and Miranda Ieuan was awarded the Lions Torse for period appearance on the field. He was also recognized by the Storm Thrones as a Havoc for his contributions to martial practices in Tir Righ. Ieuan won Coronet for the second time in September of AS 44 (2009) inspired as always by his lovely wife Gwyneth Gower. Shortly after the birth of his daughter Evelyn, Ieuan won September Crown and Reigned with Gwyneth as King and Queen of An Tir. Ieuan won crown for a second time and will take the thrones from UlfR and Keevah in July.[INCOMPLETE]

Awards

Some of the things I have been recognized for in the past are listed on the An Tir Order of Precedence [1]

Interests

It would seem that the longer I play in the SCA the more interesting things I find that I want to learn about and try my hand at. The only problem with this is that I still have not figured out how to find a few more hours in the day to enjoy all of the "cool stuff" I want to do and learn.

Heavy Combat

The Wolfpack in Cold Keep brought me into the SCA and showed my heavy combat. Even after receiving a few broken ribs in my first practice I was hooked. It was over three years before the gentleman ever found out about the injury - I was left-handed and in an awful loaner kit, I never blamed him for my misfortune!

Armouring

Shortly after arriving in Lions Gate I became apprenticed to Sir Geoffrey de Rennes. While my shop spends too many days sitting idle I am still passionate about medieval armour - particularly the armours of the latter 14th Century.

Cut and Thrust

As I have developed my fighting style in heavy combat I have been influence by an number of historical sources from Marozzo and Meyer to Fiore and I.33. The blossoming of the C&T community has given me a venue to play with historical techniques and steel.

Rapier

After a few false starts I bought my own gear and dove headlong into the rapier community. With the motivating forces of Maestro Guidobaldo, Don Warrick and Don Talentus I have become a reasonably quick study. ( With these fine gentlemen the choice is between: learn quickly and 'die often'. )

Pewter Casting & Soapstone Carving

I was introduced to Pewter Casting and Soapstone Carving in my first few years in Lions Gate. I promptly forgot about it until I was reminded by some of my middle school art students. I have taken it up again and have cast a variety of badges, brooches and tokens. I am currently designing a new series of brooches and badges for the retinue in our upcoming reign.

Award & Charter Wordings

During my second reign as Prince of Tir Righ I decided to try my hand at writing wordings for the awards that we were giving out. I enjoyed it so much that I have continued to write wordings.

Persona: 14th Century Welshman.
