The Rules

Welcome to Honey War 2004!

The Barony of Glymm Mere hopes you will have a safe and enjoyable experience while you are here.

Please observe the following rules:

All mundane laws and SCA rules apply.

Fires:
Depending on weather conditions and fire restrictions, fires will be allowed only in existing fire pits provided by the site owner or in braziers at least twelve inches or more above the surface of the ground. Appropriate extinguishing materials must be readily available at all times.

Alcohol and/or Illegal Substances:
The Barony of Glymm Mere observes a zero tolerance policy in regards to the use of illegal substances and underage drinking. If there is a problem, the problem and it's hosting encampment will be evicted from site, and the appropriate authorities will be notified. If any individual is found to be unable to care for themselves due to excessive alcohol consumption, an aid unit will be summoned to remove them.

Quiet Time:
Our site contract requires that all loud activity stop by 11:00 PM. Please help retain the use of this site by complying.

Pets:
Pets must be on leash and under physical control at all times.

Biffies:
Biffy rental is expensive. Problems with pumping them make it more expensive. Simply, if it doesn’t come out of you it doesn’t go in the biffy.

Auctions/Fundraisers:
There will be no auctions/fundraisers at this event without the prior consent of the Autocrat.

The War - Rules
SCA and An Tir armor and combat standards are in effect for all those taking part in combat activities at Honey War.

All weapons and armor will be inspected by an authorized Marshal prior to taking part in combat activities. Each inspected weapon will be marked with a sticker by the inspecting marshal. All weapons must meet SCA and ABC standards.

Pikes will be restricted to 9 feet.

There will be no killing from behind.

SAXON vs. DANISH RAIDERS
The Danes have been raiding the Saxon baronies along the border and Baron Aric has sent out his forces to hunt them down and destroy them. While his forces are in pursuit of the raiders a large band of Danes have captured the Baroness. They intend on taking her back to their stronghold and hold her for ransom. To collect the ransom the Baroness must remain alive through all scenarios.

Scenario 1
The Danes are making a run for the border with the Saxons in pursuit. The Danes turn to fight, using a castle ruin as a defensive position. Each side has three lives and archery is allowed in the battle. In this scenario the castle ruin is just as it appears, the walls can be fought over or gone around.

Scenario 2
The Danes have abandoned the castle ruin and are making for the bridge to cross over into Danish lands. The must travel down a narrow road through a dense woods that conceal Saxon Archers. Each side has two lives, once the Danes reach the bridge the archers are out of the battle.

Scenario 3
The Danes have reached their stronghold and the Saxons have laid siege to it and are trying to retrieve the Baroness by force. The only reason the Baroness lives is that a Welsh Nobleman has offered a higher ransom. No archery, each side has two lives and there is a sally port on the right side of the castle.

Scenario 4
The Welsh Nobleman is bringing the ransom to the Danes when he is attacked by marauding bands of Danes, Saxon forces loyal to Aric and outlaws. No archery, three lives for everyone. Groups may not band together. The group with the box at the end is the winner.

Sir Walter of Minstead will be our Marshal in Charge.

Arts and Sciences

Arts and Sciences activities for Honey War this year will be coordinated by our Baronial Arts and Sciences Champion, Serena Lyons.

We will once again be holding an Artisans' Forum and display, much like the one held at May Faire. Artisans of all kinds and levels are encouraged to display their skills as well as learn new ones. The Forum will be held from 11am - 3pm on Saturday, with a war point given to the side with the most participants.

Archery and Thrown Weapons Information

The range will be open for regular shooting and scoring Royal Rounds when it is not being used for the War Point Shoot, subject to the availability of Target Archery Marshalls. If you would like to assist on the range, please contact the Archery Marshall in Charge, listed at the bottom of this page.

The War Point
We will start with a target I am now building. It's a stone [box] with a cross on top made of foam. I'll place it on the ground down range in a spot I already picked out. I'll mark six places, all over the range, from which to shoot. They range from a few yards out to about 60 or 70 yds. The distances are unmeasured. The marshall starts at the farthest one and everybody shoots one shot. Then you go to the #2 position, a little closer, and shoot one shot. Go to the #3 spot. everybody shoots one shot, and now the youth start shooting, and they get two shots at #3 spot, and then they get two more shots at #4 spot. This is because they would really have a hard time making the distance from the farthest points. Then youth and adult alike all get one shot each at #5 and #6. Then you are right close to the target, and you can go right to scoring the arrows. There will be a circle on the ground around the stone, and a mark of some kind on the stone itself. Scoring is 1 point for the circle, two points for the stone, four for the mark on the stone, and eight for the cross. The risk of shooting at the cross is that if you shoot at the stone and miss, you'll probably get a point from landing in the circle on the ground. If you go for the big points on the cross, and miss, you'll overshoot the circle and get zero for the shot. The circle makes it possible to score from way out in the tooly weeds at the first and second pegs, with a possible bonus of actually being lucky enough to hit the target. The cross is good for tempting them to make a high scoring attempt at the close pegs, where the stone is easily hit. Shooters declare thier affiliation and every point they score goes into a point pool for that side. Total highest points of the shoot takes the war point for the war. Shooters can go through as many times as they want, so the race is not won by the most skilled shooter, necessarily, but the one who persists. And it is not won by one person, therefore winning the whole war point for their side, but rather it is won by the side that can field the most archers, shooting the most often, and also with the most skill. It's a group effort.

The Championship
For the Championship on Sunday, we'll shoot a royal round for one of the two target shoots. The other one will be a garland with a wand behind it, at thirty yards, three ends, the last one being a 30 second timed end. Scoring will be one point for any contact with the garland, 2 points inside the garland, and four for a split wand anywhere on the butt. Each target round must be shot with a different kind of bow. Any SCA legal bow form may be used, but they must use two different forms for the two rounds. Then they go to the combat portion. They put on a helm [there will be equipment to borrow] and shoot a combat legal bow and combat arrows at the plywood guy. There will be 4 places to shoot from, and they will shoot three shots from each place. There will be a time limit of 90 seconds to complete this. Contestants need not be combat authorized to participate in this part. It is open to any archer who can and will swear an oath of fealty to Thier Excellencies. Each shoot will have placings. If three contestants, then 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. If 4 shooters, then 1,2,3,and 4. If you finish, say, second in the royal round, you get a score of two for that shoot. If you place first in the garland shoot, you get a 1 for that shoot. If you place third in the plywood guy shoot, you get a 3 for that. Add the totals to get a final score of 6. Lowest final score takes the title. Each shoot carries the same weight.

Our Archery Marshal in Charge is Archos Gryphon the Black.

Rapier Information

Our Rapier Marshal in Charge will be Lord Wulfgang von Bremen.

Wacky Tacky Water War

The Wacky Tacky Water War (or WTWW) is planned to take place on Saturday at Honey War.

What you need :

Clothing. Bring stuff you won't mind getting wet (For shoes try flip flops)

Squirt gun! Barrels of water will be provided, but you can bring your own if you want.

A good attitude.

This is a fun event, don't spoil it.

What you DON’T need :

Fancy garb. What goes onto the field dry will leave dripping.

Water ballons are Not Allowed. No exceptions.

Favors. Again, what goes onto the field dry will come off wet, so don’t wear any special favors from anyone.

And that’s pretty much it. Oh, and if you have a Huge 10 gallon squirt gun, or something like that, please don’t go around and shoot the little kids. Those things have a lot of pressure and can cause damage. Also, please don’t step on the children. They might be hard to see, but they are still down there!

Brianna Wolfbeald will be organizing the Wacky Tacky Water War this year.
