SCA History

Started playing in 1982 in Madrone. Got serious about participation Fall 2004. House Madubi from around 1997 to 2005. Joined House Redstone Oct2006. Became Sergeantry Candidate (Yeoman) of Aquaterra in January 2008. I expect that I will be ready to pass Sergeantry Trials in Sep2009.

My goal here beyond giving back to our Society, is to learn enough that I can do all the things that a well to do Norseman would do when living on an estate in the Orkneys in the late 800's.

Persona Biography

Born (853CE Gregorian) on a farm near Trondheim in what becomes Norway. Fostered to a Jarl's family. At 21 winters, joined Konungr Harald Hårfagre and Jarl Sigurd Eysteinsson in capturing the Orkneys. Took up an estate in the Orkneys serving Jarl and Konungr. It is now the 6th year of Turf-Einar Rognvaldsson's rule in Orkney and 24th year of Konungr Harald's rule.

My estate ranches cattle and sheep, farms, and fishes. Good places to trade are in Dublin longphort, Jorvik, Oslo, and Manx.

Finished Lector Ithra Artis and Lector Ithra Scientae class work in Nov 2007.

Awarded in the court of Countess Octavia Laodice Hybrida Africanus at the Aquaterra Ithra on the 5th of April 2008. With Baroness Rosamund and Baron Hauk looking on, Chancellor Hélène de Navarre awarded Lectors to myself, Jade of Redstone, and Myrrim de Lancaster.

Scrolls for Lector Scientea was awarded in court at Warren War 2008 to both Jade Redstone and I. The Coronets of the Principality of Tir Righ were present along with those of Lions Gate and Aquaterra Baronies. Countess Octavia was the Event Steward.

Took wood carving class at Nordic Heritage Museum in Ballard (in Seattle) in 2007 (~18hrs of class time).

Sergentry

Took Sergentry classes in Aquaterra (Jan-Sep 2008) but did not attempt the trials.

Current

Future

  • The plan is to take a boat building class at the Center for Wooden Boats on Lake Union, and build a Faering (4 oar Nordic boat) with a small sail.
  • I may one day take language classes either in Icelandic or Norwegian.
