Help:Section Headings
You may have seen pages that are broken up into sections (and possibly sub-sections), and/or have a Table of Contents (ToC). These can indeed by helpful for longer pages.
They can help organize and break up a page into more digestible chunks. Each section has it's own edit button, so it makes it more manageable to edit just a particular section of your page. The Table of Contents can help anyone viewing the page to quickly find information of interest.
Markup
---
== Level 2 ==
=== Level 3 ===
==== Level 4 ====
===== Level 5 =====
====== Level 6 ======
These will look like:
Level 2
Level 3
Level 4
Level 5
Level 6

The desired section title should be surrounded by the correct number of equals signs for the level that you want. You can also auto insert the code by selecting (highlighting) the desired title text, and clicking on the Advanced section of the formatting toolbar, then selecting the desired level in the Heading drop down list.
A Table of Contents will be automatically generated at four or more sections. It can be suppressed by adding the code __NOTOC__ to your page.
Level 1 sections should be avoided, as they are the same size as page titles.
Section titles should be unique on the page to avoid conflicts or issues. A line with a section on it cannot have any other text or code following it on the same line, or the section won't work. Using lower level subsections below (later on) in the page under a higher level section will cause them to appear as sub-sections in the ToC.
