Founding Baroness Aquaterra

Baron Julian and Baroness Arianne of Aquaterra

Today we bring the word fame of Baroness Arianne Farnsworth of Falconmoors whose light passed from this world on September 2, 2022.

Originally of Blatha an Oir, Baroness Arianne and Baron Julian Edward Farnsworth of Falconmoors came to Aquaterra in 1984 and set up their household, House Falconmoors. While most may remember her as the Founding Baroness of Aquaterra she was so much more to Aquaterra, to Blatha an Oir, to An Tir, and to the SCA.

With their move to Aquaterra the officers' meetings moved from being held at House Watersyde in Everett to House Falconmoors in Edmonds in 1985. Baroness Arianne became one of the first editors of The Murmurs. She held this position until 1987 when she became the head of Aquaterra’s Costumers’ and Sewing Guild. Then in October of 1990, Baroness Arianne became Aquaterra’s Chief Archer while continuing as the Guild Mistress for Costumers’ and Sewing, both positions being held by her until she was named founding Baroness of Aquaterra in 1996. On October 23-24, 1993, Baroness Arianne and Master Andras Truemark were the event stewards of the 4th Annual An Tir Archery Symposium and Workshop. Baroness Arianne was a remarkable archer in her own right, and in January of 1995 she held the number 4 position in An Tir open class with an average of 97.6. Also, in 1995 she again assumed another event steward role along with Sir Valtorr of Oslo so that Aquaterra could host the Northern Regional Archery Champions Tourney on September 30-October 1 at the Lake Stevens Community Hall. For her dedication and administrative work in Aquaterra and An Tir, Baroness Arianne was given an Award of Arms by King Dak and Queen Daedin on January 11, 1986, and she was also inducted into the Order of the Goutte de Sang by King Thorin and Queen Angharad on January 27, 1990. She and Baron Julian also received the honor of the Order of the Belated Rose from King Aveloc and Queen Laurellen on July 16, 1999. Having begun their careers in Blatha an Oir, both Baroness Arianne and Baron Julian continued to contribute to that Barony. She earned the Order of the Golden Blossom from Baron Artemus and Baroness Isabeau on October 16, 1993, and the Order of the Briar from Baroness Isabeau on March 19, 1994.

At September Crown September 1, 1996, Aquaterra was officially recognized by King Skapti and Queen Asa as a Barony and Baroness Arianne of Falconmoors and Baron Julian Edward Farnsworth of Falconmoors became the founding Baron and Baroness. During their tenure Baron Julian inducted Baroness Arianne into the Order of the Silver Dolphin on June 20, 1998 and granted her his Baron’s Favor on April 27, 2002. Baroness Arianne and Baron Julian stepped down at Ursulmas January 25, 2003, and she was granted the rights of a Court Baroness by King Davin and Queen Groa. Still, her love for the Barony of Aquaterra was shown through her continued worked and recognized by Baron Andreu and Baroness Fiamma who inducted her into the Order of the Golden Estoille on April 5, 2003 and granted her Aquaterra’s highest honor when they inducted her into the Order of the Falcon’s Talon at Good Yule December 18, 2004. Baron Wyll Hauk and Dame Rosamund also gave her recognition when they granted her membership into the Order of the Green Bear at Good Yule December 20, 2008. Baroness Arianne continued to participate and hold office when time and health allowed through 2018, and even through the prolonged closure and trials of the past 3 years Arianne remained dedicated to Aquaterra and An Tir doing as much as she could to try to memorialize Aquaterra's history.

While Baroness Arianne may no longer be a physical presence in this world, it is our hope that we continue to remember the light she kindled in our hearts, the inspiration she brought with her, and the generosity of her fierce and fiery spirit.
