Name

Idris ap Bran is mundanely known as Micah Bear.

The name Idris ap Bran is a properly researched, documented, and approved SCA name (June 2007). It is historically accurate to 13th century Wales.

Interests

Idris pursues a few SCA-related interests.

Dance

Idris attends the Three Mountains Dance Practice when available, and is working to improve his dance skill.

Heavy Fighting

Idris acquired his first suit of armor by a stroke of luck. When posting on the Three Mountains Yahoo group, asking about how to go about procuring armor to learn in, a kindly gentleman offered to donate a full suit minus the gorget. With that generous assistance, Idris was ready to move forward and now attends the Three Mountains Fight Practice as he is available. Idris has also, recently been spearheading and organizing the members of the the Iron Ring to attend their own Heavy fighting practice as well as Three Mountains's. It is his goal, as Heavy Master to field a unit of no less than 10 Iron Ring heavy fighters and combat archers by the end of 2008. As a member of the Iron Ring, Idris is a mercenary and will sell his services (along with those of the unit) to the highest bidder in any war.

Woodworking

In 2007, Idris built a Gypsy Vardo style trailer for camping. It is built in a style that mimics those found in the 13th century- though the term "Vardo" is from a much later period. He plans to complete a few upgrades to it this season. He is working on a design for a late period Seating Gallery that could be made to breakdown and brought to events.

Persona History

Idris ap Bran is the 3rd son of a poor, Welsh farmer. Born in 1278 Idris learned music from a travailing Troubadour who from southern France. When his eldest brother returned from fighting against Edward I of England while in the service to Llywelyn the Last he started to learn the arts of war. After mastering the basics of soldering and combat with his brother's assistance, Idris joined the Rebellion against Edward I of England, begun by Madog ap Llywelyn in 1294. Upon being defeated at the battle of Maes Moydog, he fled to France to find his way in the world. Finding himself in Aquitaine he hoped to make his living with his musical skills, but it was not to be. The land of the troubadour's was gone- wiped out by Crusade and oppression. He returned to Britian, and traveled north to join the Army of Robert the Bruce of Scotland against the English once more. Following the death of Edward I of England in 1307 he left Scotland to make his living as a mercenary.
