Legacy Items in the SCA are items, typically regalia, that have a legacy of prior wearers / owners / bearers that are recorded (written, orally, or otherwise).

It has been a tradition in the SCA, especially as time has advanced, for some groups (most notably peerage orders) to pass on items to newly inducted / awarded members. Normally this will be a piece of regalia that is associated with the order — a knights belt, a laurel's medallion, or so forth. Many items will have no legacy (just the creator of the physical item and the first recipient), or might have a legacy that isn't recorded (perhaps a squires belt that has been re-used many times).

The Category Category:Legacy Items and it's sub-categories were created for wiki entries about legacy items with a significant legacy.

Items that are associated with an office, champion, or even the crowns of An Tir are of course legacy items, although their lineage is either well known or easy to find, and so are often not recited when they are given, and these are not the type of things that tend to be refereed to as such.
