Lady Heílvé Frídríksdóttir is a Norsewoman of the early 11th century from the western coasts of Norway. Her name, derived from Old Norse *heill* (“luck, happiness”) and *vé* (“sacred place”), appears in Old Swedish as Helvi and in runes as haili. She is a daughter of Friðrik, devoted to the pursuits of art, archery, and lore.
Heílvé began her journey in the SCA at Banner War in AS L (2015) and has served the Barony of Aquaterra faithfully since.

- Scribal Arts – painter and illuminator of scrolls, with an emphasis on Norse-inspired art
- Bardic Arts – student of storytelling and period music, working toward performance proficiency
- Archery – practicing archer with a passion for both accuracy and the meditative discipline of the bow

Heraldic Device
Blazon: Sable, a wolf rampant contourny argent, in chief a quill and a bow in saltire argent.
The device represents Heílvé’s watchful strength, her love of expression through writing, and her skill as an archer. The wolf is a sacred symbol in Norse mythology, the quill for her scribal path, and the bow for her martial discipline.

Event Stewardship & Service
Event Steward – Good Yule (December 2, 2017) Heílvé was the steward for Aquaterra’s Good Yule 2017, a 16th-century Italian-themed celebration held at the Stillaguamish Grange in Stanwood, WA. The event included:
- A lavish period feast inspired by the *Banchetti* of Messisbugo
- Half-day of Italian dance and games such as Scopa and Saccomazzone
- Largesse competition, silent auction, and “Contrade: Peace, Love, War,” an interactive table game promoting friendly intrigue
Co-Steward – Aquaterra Champions & St. Ursul’s Collegium (August 25–27, 2017) Heílvé served as co-steward and was the lead coordinator for the collegium, organizing 28 classes and managing teacher recruitment, scheduling, and logistics. This event blended martial and A&S traditions and was widely praised for its educational depth.
Return to the Circle
After stepping away from the SCA in late 2019 to focus on family and the changing seasons of life, Lady Heílvé Frídríksdóttir took a long (and much-needed) break. Though absent from events, her heart stayed close to the Dream — the shared creativity, laughter, and community she held dear.
During her time away, she mourned the loss of her beloved hound Ruby, a loyal companion through many travels and quiet moments. Life also brought new joys: the arrival of two spirited young sons who keep her days lively and full, and the addition of a new four-legged friend — Roux, a gentle hound who has taken up Ruby’s spot at her feet.
In 2025, Heílvé returned to Aquaterra with renewed spirit, a brush in one hand and a bow in the other. She’s once again painting scrolls, learning songs by firelight, and pursuing new avenues of service to the great Barony she calls home.
“It feels good to be back,” she says with a smile — “and this time, I brought snacks... and toddlers.”
