Persona
Name: Lady Helena Zancani
Origin: Venice, Italy
Location: Italy, Germany and Spain.
Current Year: 1565
Current Occupation: Courtesan
Helena was born in 1542 Venice to Lucrezia Zancani, a little known courtesan of modest means. She was the second child of Lecrezia and her father was unknown, but was certainly one of the courtesan's clients, most likely a minor noble or merchant. In 1554, at the age of 12, Helena followed her mother's trade and began training as a courtesan. This education includes dance, embroidery, poetry, singing and playing music, and learning to read and write. Her training continued for four years before she took on her first client in 1557. Helena became a moderately prosperous Courtesan with a penchant for more exciting clientele. In 1559 she met Field Captain Nicolai from a mercenary unit called The Iron Ring. He became one of her patrons during his company's many trips to Venice. Helena greatly admired the intelligence and chivalry shown by the mercenary Captain but saw him infrequently due to the continuous campaigns he was in. In 1562 the Inquisition tried Helena on charges of Witchcraft. She was subsequently acquitted due to a lack of evidence but was found guilty of the lesser crime of fornication and was heavily fined. Many of Helena's clients abandoned her due to the charges causing a steep decline in her finances. After two years of periodic scrutiny from the inquisition and the local government, Helena received a missive from one of her remaining patrons telling her of another accusation of witchcraft. Fearing that this time the Inquisition would leave nothing to chance, Helena begged assistance of Captain Von Tachov. Nicolai smuggled her out of the city. The two rejoined Nicolai's mercenary company where Helena assisted in negotiations by acting as a hostess.
