Cian is the 6th son of a landed Jarl who controlled lesser warlords holding domains north of Birka. Upon the death of his father, the pampered youngest son realized he stood no chance of winning any piece of his father's lands. He then fled from his brother's feuding in the night, taking passage on the next ship leaving the nearby port. Having embraced the new Christian religion, he fled to the southern lands, hoping to find welcome there. He bartered his passage south by playing and singing for a group of non-Norse raiding ships, eventually earning the title of "fleet skald". After seeing the wreck of the Draco Jimeny in a fiece fall storm, he then ventured east. He started to learn to fight as a matter of survival and cultural adaption. Along the way he gained the notice of a household, who took him in and trained him further the martial ways and path of true brotherhood. Soon afterwards, That same household was approached at a tournament to select the King by a long-term ally of theirs who had recently been elevated to a high noble position, and needed assistance. In his quest for new ways to serve, Cian glady volunteered for the task, finding joy in serving those he deemed worthy. He soon found himself deeply ensconced in court life, earneing title as a Lord for his heralding skills and service to the nobility. After facing a series of trials, he swore service to the Rus Baron of an ancient and noble Barony. He dug in with a will, barely sleeping or eating in the service of the Baron and Baroness, for the hands to help them had not yet arrived. But Cian grew restless. He looked around, and saw that the Baron and Baroness were now well served, and he had grown tired of the smiles and petty talk of the courts. He spoke to his Baron, and asked his permission to join the newly forming Crusade, and thus gain prowness in areas where he felt he now could serve best: on the field. His Baron ganted his permission with the firm admonition that Cian was *still* in his service, and to go forth and fight honorably. Thus Cian left for new adventures, hoping to return with stories and glory....
