Heralds provide a number of functions in the SCA.
- Armory: Design and registration of heraldry (arms, badges)
- Names: Registration of appropriately medieval names.
- Court Herald: Being the Voice of the Throne (or other noble) during their Court; making announcements, reading award scrolls aloud, calling members of the populace forward to be recognized.
- Field Herald: Announcing the fighter pairings and performing the pre-fight ceremony.
- Town Cry: Distributing information vocally on a circuit during camping events.
