Name: Lady Avelyn de Mowbray, JdL, OSD

Home Branch: Lady Avelyn lives in the far northern area of the Barony of Aquaterra and played with the Barony for three years. She and her family are now playing in the nearby Shire of Midhaven.

Interests

Lady Avelyn has many interests including the following:

  • Costuming
    Lady Avelyn has learned to sew since joining the SCA in the summer of A.S. XLIII (2008). She has had many wonderful teachers in this process and has been learning to recreate period garb for her and her family.
  • Yurt making
    Lady Avelyn and her friend and teacher, HL Elewys Cuylter of Finchingefeld, discovered the many wonders and challenges of building a Mongolian/Turkish Yurt/Gher. While the project has continuous alterations being made, it was done in time for their families to enjoy for September Crown A.S. XLVI (2011). Avelyn's Yurt is 18 feet in diameter, while Elewys's is 12 feet.

Family

Lady Avelyn is married to Lord Michael FitzGeoffrey, GdS, and has three children: Emily, Jaren, and Edwin.

Awards

Lady Avelyn received her Award of Arms on Saturday, November 20th, A.S. XLV (2010) from Queen Miranda at the Midhaven Harvest Feast. Her name and arms were registered with the SCA College of Arms in December A.S. XLIV (2009).

Lady Avelyn was also awarded membership in the Barony of Aquaterra's Order of the Silver Dolphin in the year A.S. XLV (2010).

Lady Avelyn entered the An Tir Costumer’s Guild Tourney Garb Contest at July Coronation A.S. XLVI (2011) and tied for first place in the Novice Catagory with a late 12th/early 13th century ensemble that she made for her husband, Lord Michael.

On Saturday, 17 November 2012, at Midhaven’s annual Harvest Feast, Lady Avelyn was given her Grant of Arms and admitted into the Order of the Jambe de Lion by King Vik and Queen Astrid, although Their Majesties weren't in attendance. (Court was held by the royal heirs, Crown Prince UlfR and Crown Princess Caoimhe.)

On Saturday, November 16, 2013 (A.S. XLVII), Lady Avelyn was inducted into the Shire of Midhaven’s Company of the Tulip, and was thereby named as an Honorary Citizen of the Shire.
