A posting to the Lions Gate List, 8 Jun 2006
It is a dark and stormy night - perfect traditional Lions Gate weather.
Thirty years ago today the Barony of Lions Gate came into being. What a ride it has been...
It is my distinct pleasure to be among many fine fine people - and as the strength of Lions Gate is the people of Lions Gate, we have a fine fine Barony.
We should have a party. The Baroness and I would like to invite one and all to a gathering at SeaLion War to celebrate 30 years of happiness, tears, friendship and memories. Join us on Saturday evening at the Baronial Pavilion and bring your tankard. There will be brewed drinks and soft drinks, and perhaps a cake. (So perhaps some sort of plate would be in order too...)
See you there. If you cannot make it, we'll raise a glass and a cheer for you.

Greetings from the Autocrat!!
Thank you all for a wonderful war. We had a great turnout. We had a good number of volunteers. Noone died. This is all good.
It was a close war - Here were the results from WSCA TV as reported by the correspondents Harold and James.
The heavy war point was a close one, but Seagirt left the Lionsgate army bleading on the field. The rapier war point was up on the hill and those in camp had a spectacular view. Lionsgate evened up the total to one point each. The sciences point, a period timepiec as presented by Huckbald went to Seagirt. The arts entries were like comparing apples and oranges (Harold likes oranges and James "likes them apples") It was declared a draw with half a point to each. The encampment point, period lighting, had two entries from Seagirt and only one lowly entry from Lionsgate and yet Lionsgate pulled off the point. The archery competition was fierce with almost all the great Lionsgate archers being elimanated by an up and coming Seagirtian (I think he was fourteen), but Lionsgate still managed to hold on and earned the point.
This left a point total of 2.5 for Seagirt and 3.5 for Lionsgate with only the Children's point to decide the war.
Imagine my delight at the sight of my own daughter Myfawnwy (MKA Cydney) demonstrating the children's entry (A non-permanent sealion tatoo) to decide the war for Lionsgate (Proud Father ginning).
Lionsgate wins!!
I would like to thank the gate people (Shionann and Elena most of all), my lady Arianna, my co-autocrat Ieuan Gower, the constables, the water-bearers, the marshals, the judges, ALL the people making sure I stayed off my feet, and everyone else who made this such a wonderful war.
