Alvar,

Thanks for the comment on the kit. I like your soft kit as well. I noticed the updated image "in preparation for honor war" and you cut quite the gentlemanly figure. Bien hecho. Your armour is a bit hard to make out in the other image, with that rodela in the way and no helm on. I did see your post on the Armour Archive with the new Morion. ¡Felicitaciones!

The shield is aircraft aluminum, from Windrose Armory. Takes hits like a champ, no dents or bending.

I did blacken the armour myself, albeit with masking tape and a spray can of automotive primer. It's holding up reasonably well, but it took a beating at Art of War and I have a feeling I'll need to sand and re-apply at the end of every season.

I'm currently working with Baron Alail Horsefriend (of Salem) to make a fauld for the breastplate and a pair of late 16th c. legs (the kind made of segmented lames all down the thigh) and cased greaves. If that project goes well, it will be a major addition to the period look of my armour. I'm sure there will be updates to my wiki page once I have images of that.

I would look forward to meeting you when possible. It doesn't appear we have any overlapping events this year, but perhaps in future we'll cross paths at Crown or some other kingdom-level event. You and your family should hit Twelfth Night next year (in Eugene).

The shield is domed (spun) and I'm having a little trouble learning to use it. I've been a buckler fighter before now and the large shield is a bit of a change in style. The black on the shield is the same masking tape-primer spray method I used on the armour.

As it turns out, my family will be coming to May Crown, so perhaps we will meet after all!
