Order of the Golden Paw

The Order of the Golden Paw is an informal, non-Kingdom recognition founded by Nykera Drago D'Argento to honor the meaningful contributions of animal companions—both living and passed—who support members of the Society for Creative Anachronism in their daily lives and participation within the Society.
The Order acknowledges the often-unseen emotional, practical, and inspirational roles that animal companions play in fostering resilience, companionship, and well-being. the Order wishes to recognize the contributions made by many animals that make aspects of the Society possible such es equestian sports that could not exist without Horses.
Purpose
The Order of the Golden Paw was created to:
- Recognize the support provided by animal companions
- Honor animals who have contributed to a member’s ability to participate in the Society
- Provide a symbolic acknowledgment of companionship
- Create a space for remembrance of animal companions no longer living
- Ackowledge the contributions of all animals to the Society aiding not only in pageantry and ceremony but also in competitions and sport.
The Order is explicitly informal and is not affiliated with, nor does it confer, any official recognition within the Kingdom of An Tir or the Society at large.
Scope
The Order recognizes:
- Companion animals providing emotional support
- Animals present during creative, service, or event preparation
- Animals remembered for their long-term companionship and impact
- Animals who actively participate in events- such as equestrian events, arts and sciences or ceremonies of rememberance (Riderless Horse Ceremony)
- Acknowledging and respecting the contributions of sentient beings to this society and it's people.
Recognition may be given regardless of species, age, or current status. All Animals great and small are welcome to be nominated to be inducted in the order. Animals who are no long among us are also welcome. As this order is long over due we wish to honor those Furriends who have gone before- those who should have but were never acknowledged for their contributions- We recognize that though they are gone they have left their mark in our hearts and memories.
Sister Orders
The Order of the Golden Paw exists alongside two sister orders, each recognizing different forms of animal companionship.
Order of the Golden Hoof

The Order of the Golden Hoof recognizes hooved animal companions, including but not limited to horses, donkeys, goats, and other livestock animals, that provide companionship, labor, emotional grounding, or support to members of the Society.
Within the Kingdom, the equestrian community is sustained through close partnership with their animal companions. These animals contribute not only through daily work and training, but also through ceremonial roles, including participation in memorial traditions such as the Riderless Horse Ceremony, which honors members who have passed.
Order of the Golden Claw
The Order of the Golden Claw recognizes clawed animal companions, such as birds, reptiles, and other non-pawed species, honoring their roles in companionship, comfort, and inspiration. Honoring their contribution to pageantry and education.
Together, the three Orders provide an inclusive framework for recognizing a wide range of animal companions.
Structure
The Orders operate as informal recognitions rather than formal organizations. There is no hierarchy, precedence, or requirement for service within the Society. Recognition is symbolic and intended to honor connection rather than achievement.
Philosophy
The Orders are grounded in the belief that companionship—human or animal—plays a vital role in creativity, resilience, and community engagement. By acknowledging animal companions, the Orders seek to honor relationships that support members both within and beyond the Society.
Founding
The Order of the Golden Paw, along with the Orders of the Golden Hoof and the Golden Claw, was founded by Nykera Drago D'Argento alongside her animal companion, Baxter the Black, a Newfoundland–Poodle mix associated with the origins and symbolism of the Orders.

Induction Texts
The following sections are reserved for selected wording from letters of induction associated with the Orders. These texts may include excerpts or full transcriptions used to formally recognize animal companions. Inclusion is optional and intended for historical and commemorative purposes.
Order of the Golden Paw — Induction Letters
❧ Ode to the Beasts of Golden Paw ❧
In honor of their faithful service to the Kingdom of An Tir
In shadowed glade and castle keep,
Where sovereigns wake and wardens sleep,
Walk beasts of heart so brave and true—
Their love unsworn, yet honor due.
No gilded chain, nor royal ring,
Could match the grace these creatures bring.
With steadfast tread or silent grace,
They guard, they guide, they hold their place.
The hound, with eyes like morning flame,
Knows not of heralds, yet earns fame.
Through war and woe, through hearth and hall,
He comes when called, he gives his all.
So let the scribes now draw the scroll,
Let trumpets sound and church bells toll—
For beasts who’ve served with loyal heart,
We found The Order of the Golden Paw
No greater gift, no nobler cause,
Than service done without applause.
Yet here we gather, hearts held high,
To raise them ‘neath An Tir’s bright sky.
Let collars gleam with woven thread,
Let oaths be carved and laurel spread.
These beasts, who walked by knight and queen,
Shall now be honored, praised, and seen.
Let it be known that this day, in the Kingdom of An Tir,
the noble and loyal companion known as:
Is hereby inducted into the Order of the Golden Paw
For faithful service, unwavering loyalty, and valor beyond measure.
So raise the cup! Let tales be told—
Of paws and hooves, both brave and bold.
For though they wear no helm or shawl,
They've served as true as any thrall.
In name of land and lore,
We grant them peace forevermore—
And welcome them with joy and awe,
Into the Order of the Golden Paw
By the Paw and Seal of Baxter the Black, Founder and President, Order of the Golden Paw. Ratified this day by Nykera Drago D’Argento Founder, Rebellious Mercenary Scribe Guild.

No gilded chain, nor royal ring,
Could match the grace these creatures bring.
With steadfast tread or silent grace,
They guard, they guide, they hold their place.
The steed, whose thunder wakes the land,
Does not demand a crown or hand.
With wind-sworn mane and iron will,
He rides through storm and silence still.
So let the scribes now draw the scroll,
Let trumpets sound and church bells toll—
For beasts who’ve served with loyal heart,
We found The Order of the Golden Hoof
No greater gift, no nobler cause,

❧ Ode to the Beasts of Golden Paw ❧
In everlasting honor of their faithful service to the Kingdom of An Tir
In shadowed glade and castle keep,
Where sovereigns wake and wardens sleep,
Walked beasts of heart so brave and true—
Their love unsworn, yet honor due.
No gilded chain, nor royal ring,
Could match the grace they chose to bring.
With steadfast tread and gentle grace,
They kept their watch, they held their place.
The hound, with eyes like morning flame,
Knows not of heralds, yet earned fame.
Through war and woe, through hearth and hall,
He came when called, he gave his all.
Now let the scribes with solemn care,
Record their deeds beyond compare.
Though paws have stilled, their spirits soar,
And guard us now forevermore.
Let collars gleam with woven thread,
Let memory crown the paths they tread.
For though they’ve passed beyond the hall,
Their names live on, beloved of all.
So raise the cup! Let tales be sung—
Of noble beasts, both old and young.
For though they dwell past mortal law,
They shine within the Golden Paw.
In name of land and lore,
We grant peace forevermore—
And welcome them with love and awe,
Into the Order of the Golden Paw.
