A SEPARATE CLASS  - POUCH MAKING
This class will be presented by Kier Darach - whose 20th Century name is Shane Williamson. He works at Tandy Leather
The class info is a leather sewing and carving class. The end product is a pouch. Cost is only $15 and this is for materials used. Which includes the leather, needles, thread and leather dyes and finishes. The instructor supplies the tools.
The class will have an open format so that people can help at the site and feel free to come back and work on their project when they can. This format will work better as people work at different rate and there is needed drying times. It will also allow the instructor to run stuff in the evening. And have people working on stuff all week. The instructor ran the same class as a two day class at SeaLion War this year.
The instructor will be on site as of July 28. He will be handling the registration for the class.

Clinton War
August 3 - 6, 2007
Barony of Lions Gate
Clinton, BC

Lions Gate will meet the combined forces of Danescombe and Coill Mhor at the Clinton War. There will be battles for all, archery, rapier, arts and sciences contests as well. We are planning on having castle battles, woods battles, the Baroness's walk and more. You can enjoy classes, star-gazing, the Tavern, Merchants Row and diverse entertainment.

To foster and display the multitude of talents in all of our illustrious Principality, the Arts and Sciences War Points will be as follows:

Arts point: on site dyeing.
Entries will be a dyed piece of fleece with materials suitable for medieval times. Fleece will be provided. Use of dyes and mordants found on site will be highly encouraged and rewarded. Documentation is encouraged. IMPORTANT - Waste Water from the dyeing MUST be disposed of in the designated location.

Sciences point: transportation device.
In a medieval village, items had to be taken from point A to point B. Water, food, building materials, people, all had to be transported. Entries will be a medieval transportation device. Entries do not need to be built on site, however that will be taken into consideration. Documentation is highly encouraged and will be rewarded.

Mercenary entries are welcome.

There will be classes to take. A list of classes and the class descriptions will be posted on the coming weekend. All registration is on site.

The War begins at noon on Friday, August 3, 2007 and ends at 1pm on Monday, August 6, 2007.

The site, located near the village of Clinton in Central BC, is a beautiful valley with a creek running through it, a spring for water and pit toilets. There is no street address for this event as it is located on the Clinton Creek Ranch (the old Martin place), a few kilometers north of the village of Clinton. The closest groceries, gas and bank machine are in Clinton. The days can be hot and the nights can be cold and it is usually windy.

Because of the fire hazard there may be restrictions on open fires and smoking. Fires - only at the Bardic fire pit and in suspended braziers. Fires in encampments must have safety precautions in place ie sand or water or a fire extinguisher.

Smoking is allowed only at the Sir Walter Raleigh Memorial Bridge, and at the Bardic fire. Please use the butt buckets. Smoking in your encampment may be allowed if the fire hazard is not too high and your neighbours permit it.

There is no merchant fee. There is no merchant registration deadline. While most of the merchants locate themselves on the North Road and the Tavern Road, there is no allocated Merchants Row.

There is only one way to reserve tent space at Clinton. It is on a first come basis. Either you or someone else puts down your tent or a labeled tarp in the space that you want. There is no tenting on the Combat and Castle Field.

Minors (18 and under) attending without a parent or legal guardian must have a signed NSCA minor waiver, a signed SCA minor waiver and two copies of a signed SCA medical authorization.

Site Fee: Adult members $12.00, Youth (13-18) $6.00, Children (12 and under) free. Family cap $36.00 plus applicable Non-Member Surcharge applies to modern related families only, maximum two adults. The Non-Member Surcharge of $4.00 will be charged to those adults who are not a paid member of the SCA. Adults who are SCA members must show their SCA Membership card at the gate or they will be charged the Non-Member Surcharge of $4.00.

The sponsoring group is the Barony of Lions Gate. Please make cheques payable to "The Barony of Lions Gate".

Americans are advised to change your US funds to Canadian funds before coming to Clinton to pay the gate fees. US funds are accepted at par at the gate.

Use of the site structures is at your own risk. For more information, please visit the Barony of Lions Gate's website at http://www.lionsgate.antir.sca.org, and then select events.

Autocrat: Amanda Kendal of Westmoreland (Nancy Stevens), 636 East 14th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5T 2N2, 604-709-5659, email kendal@lightspeed.ca

Directions: Take Highway 97 to Clinton. From the south, travel to the other end of town and turn left onto MacDonald. From the north, turn right onto MacDonald. When the road forks, take the right hand fork that continues up the hill and turns into a gravel road. Follow the surveyors tape. Cross the railway tracks and the cattle guard. Just after the cattle guard, the road forks again. Take the left fork. Stay on this road and you will see a reservoir on the left. Just past this is the main gate. Please close the gate and continue until you reach the site proper.

Work Week Copy

Greetings all,

Gentles of all ages are invited to help prepare the Clinton site for the onslaught of the armies. Beginning on the Saturday before the event we need help with everything from painting signs to digging ditches to laying out roads, building bridges, helping with class registration and making improvements to the castle. We have a job for everyone, and this event runs because of your help.

This is to prepare the site for those attending the event, and to add various items for the enjoyment of more people.

Gate people will be needed starting Wednesday.

A few reminders:

First, please have someone from your camp attend the 9am work meetings each morning; that's where the work assignments get done and where we find out about progress. The meetings are at Sushi Sam's Restaurant (same location as last year).

Second, we'd like everyone to do a couple of hours a day of work. You can do all your work on one day and relax for the rest of the week, if you wish. Or, you can work as much as you want to. Looking after the people in your camp who are working on the site counts as working on the site. Helping with class registration counts as well.

If you arrive on the Work Weekend or early in the Work Week, you are expected to put in 10 - 12 hours total. If you arrive on Wednesday or later you are expected in put in 4 hours total. Of course, if you wish to put in more work time, you are welcome to do so.

There is no time clock and no one is checking up on you. This is on your honour.

This will leave plenty of time to take classes, work on the Children's Play, hike, hang out at Kelly Lake, tourist in the area or relax.

Please, no medieval garb before 6 pm, unless you are taking or teaching a class. The event begins at noon on Friday August 3rd.

No merchants open during the Work Week before 6 pm with the exception of food merchants who can be open any time. There is no merchant fee. While most of the merchants locate themselves on the North Road and the Tavern Road, there is no allocated Merchants Row.

Because of the fire hazard there may be restrictions on open fires and smoking. Fires - only at the Bardic fire pit and in suspended braziers. Fires in encampments must have safety precautions in place ie sand or water or a fire extinguisher.
