Membership carries a Grant of Arms and is awarded by the Crown to those who have shown excellence in rapier combat. Members often use the title "Don" or equivalent. Some members of the order choose to take on formal students who are known as cadets.

With the creation of the Order of Defense, the Order of the White Scarf was closed to new members, as noted in the May Crown curia L/2015.
