Apparently the event was postponed and enlarged, being rescheduled for June 20th and both baronies, Madrone and Three Mountsins, became co-hosts. Although it is possible the event occurred in May by Madrone, as scheduled, then a second event was held jointly in June at the same site.
My interpretation of a single, postponed event is based on the title “1st Baronial Tournaments” for the June event. The original May event was billed as “THE BARONY OF MADRONE -- 1st Tourney.” If it had been held in May, then the June event would have been Madrone’s ''second'' tourney. Yet, the June event is announced as the “1st”.
Further, ‘’The Page’’ for May has a calendar for May events that does NOT include the Madrone 1st Tourney. However, this issue starts with “Extra, Extra__More events in the fair and Merrie month of May.” So it may be a list of additional events without repetition. In fact, of the three other May events listed in the April issue, only one is included in the May issue list.
The June ''The Page'' reported: “THE BARONIES OF MADRONE & THE THREE MOUNTAINS -- 1st Baronial Tournaments -- a combined event to be held at the holding of Clyde Schumann. Coming from Seattle, take the St. Martin's College Exit, turn R. on Martin Wy, R. again
on Sleater Kinney Rd., and R. again on Johnson Pt. Rd. The Tourney is at the only house on the R. between Swane & Bickle Rds. From Portland, take the Sleater Kinney Rd. Exit, turn L. on Sleater Kinney, crossing Martin Way. For information, contact [[Raymond the Mild]], or Lady Lynn [from Portland].

Revision as of 16:39, 20 May 2025

The first tournament held in the lands of the Pacific Northwest that became An Tir occurred in Olympia, WA on 20 June 1970, hosted by the Baronies of Madrone and Three Mountains.

The Page for April 1970 announced: “Sunday, May 3rd, at the holding of Clyde Schumann [father of Raymond the Mild], 12 noon 'till exhaustion... Fighting with diverse weapons, Maypole dancing, etc., etc. Although some meager efforts will be made to provide refreshments, everyone is requested to bring his own lunch/supper/suckling pig/fattened calf/what have you...
