In 2015, researching a secondary persona of a Karelian Iron Age Finn began, that of Valborg Hyvärintytär af Ihala , who has a separate badge: (Fieldless) On a comb argent a peacock vert. The Karelian Iron Age does not necessarily mean early Viking age, but could be up to about 1323, when the Treaty of Noteborg divided Karelia between Sweden and the Novgorod Republic. I enjoy the mélange of the cultures in this small area - with Swedish, Karelian, Ingre, Estonian, Latvian and Rus influences, even if it is a challenge to try and sort out which is most appropriate. I suppose it simply shows my innate stubbornness (or an appreciation for family history). As of yet, my daughter Rhoslyn has not elected to have a separate Finnish name, but enjoys wearing the style of clothing more than the 14th century Welsh outfits.

To date, I enjoy learning to do brass coil work and trying to research plausibly period clothing, accessories, food and embellishments. Intarsia, while primarily of the Swedish and Finnish area in later period, is something I also do but is not actually from the Iron Age.

Having been elevated to the Order of the Laurel in 2019, and created teh 7th Baroness of Blatha an Oir the same summer, my preferred alternative titles are Paronitar for Baroness and Mestari for Laurel when dressed as Valborg.
