Summary

Bakar began participating in the SCA in the summer of 2007, where he fought for the first time at Autumn War. The following year he was officially welcomed as a member of House Jormungandr.

Persona

Born in the Kingdom of Pamplona during the reign of Sancho I Garcés, Bakar Ossote is a 10th century Basque Almogavar. As a professional warrior he spent much of his early adulthood as part of a wandering company of soldiers, eventually bringing him to the coastal regions of the Kingdom of Asturias. At that time, he and his brothers-in-arms were hired by a coastal town as protection against the increasingly frequent viking raids. The ferocity of his fellow Almogavars drove many would-be-raiders away, but one morning they found themselves frightfully outnumbered by a crew of raiding Norsemen. Bakar and his band eventually won the battle, but lost so many of their numbers that they had no choice but to disband.

Bakar then left Iberia and traveled through Gaul, eventually stopping for some time in a coastal trade town. It was there that he encountered a Hiberno-Norse trading vessel in need of armed warriors, and offered his services in exchange for pay. By the end of these travels he found himself in Birka, where he began fighting alongside Norsemen as new opportunities presented themselves. Over time, the Norsemen grew to like Bakar's fierce resolve and he became a close friend and ally to many of them. Despite some occasional moral and ethical disagreements with his viking friends, Bakar has remained in the North. Since then, being a man of few crafts, he has increasingly adopted the Norse styles of dress and ornamentation.
