Greetings,

here is a thread on a forgotten Wyewood tradition. FYI. I think the current holder of the Artimus is lady Oddny. So far as I can tell only a couple people qualify for the "honor" and at least one of them no longer plays in the SCA

Is Artimus going to be staying with his current caretaker for another year. This is the "traditional" time for him to be passed off to another when the current caretaker feels the need. Immune people want to know! 8{)

Then you're the one who has to explain it. It's the only solution, I'm afraid.

Draga left us in the last part of July AS 24/1999.

Tam (one of Artimus' keepers... and I know who put in the "winning" ballot for my year with Artimus...:-}

Some years ago in the early days of the incipient Canton of Wyewood.....

lady known in the society as Draga of Drevo jumped into the SCA with both feet. She came into the society late in her life. However she brought good humor, good stories and a wonderful gift for the arts.

Some time before Ldy. Draga's last Lionhearts, she learned her time here was limited. She attended her last Lionhearts to say her goodbyes, pass along a few gifts. Finally, to pass along one of her most "unique" creations. The stuffed creature known as Artimus. A gorilla dressed as a late period fencer. Who, when sufficently charged, "dances" to the Macarana. With foil in hand. Truely a unique and incredible sight to see and hear.

Lady Draga decreed that Artimus would be given away in a raffle. The new caretaker would be in charge of his safety and upkeep. Also to bring him to Wyewood events when possible. The raffle was tainted with charges of possible voting irregularities. (None of which could be put at the feet of the winner.) Rauthulfr "won" Artimus.

After a year or so, Rauthulfr felt that Artimus was just much of a good thing for only one person to enjoy. So he added to the stipulations laid out by Ldy. Draga.

Every so often, around Lionhearts, Artimus would be passed to a new caretaker. The recipient had to fit the following specifications: 1) They must follow Lady Dragas original requests 2) They must have known Lady Draga in life. 3) They cannot have previously won Artimus. 4) When the time comes that no one qualifies. He will be passed to Lady Celeste since she was one of Lady Dragas kin.

I do not know if the current care taker is ready to pass along her responsibility. That was the reason for my curiousity. So, if you fit the qualifications: Remember, next time it could be you.

PS: Would the story of Artimus be "worthy" of incusion on the website as part of the shire history and rememberance.?
