At Crown Events
A filk by Marcos de Foronda
To the tune of "At Seventeen" by Janis Ian
I learned the truth at Crown events
That deals are made inside the tents
And chivalry is just for show
For those with power in the know
Recognition for the friends
Of those who's titles never end
Ignoring those naïve by youth
At Crown events I learned the truth
And those who work with double faces
Sheltered in their social graces
Let others do their dirty deeds
In reaching to fulfill their greed
And those true men of chivalry
Are buried in the rivalry
It doesn't all make sense
At Crown events
A brand new squire with dreams of white
Is being taught just how to fight
With rights and wrongs in undertones
To always work at getting known
And those who work behind the scenes
Are buried deep within the dream
While volunteering silently
To keep alive our chivalry
Remember those who win the game
Lose respect they sought to gain
In lapses of their honesty
With dubious integrity
The Kingdoms eyes will gape at you
In dull surprise, with payment due
Ignoring all the hints
At Crown events
To those of you who know the pain
Of accolades that never came
And those who's deeds were not recalled
When politicians names were called
It was long ago and far away
The world was younger than today
And dreams were all they gave for free
To innocent young fools like me
We've all played the game, when we dared
Pretending that we've never cared
Inventing reasons for our wrongs
Hiding truths within our songs
They come and ask
Come help me, please
We murmur vague obscenities
Or hide within our tent
At Crown events
