- Lao Xue-sheng - Wise Student (The Tibetan monks who raised her had an extraordinary sense of humor...);
- Nu-huang Lao - first reign name (Chinese for queen);
- Lao Tao-sheng - county name, Chinese for "Old One, Born to Tell Tales" (she was once a bard');
- Lao Khatun - second reign name (a Mongolian title, 'chieftain's wife');
- Lao Yu - Old Jade (duchy name)
